will you forget me?

this is a translation of the element’s song birsiney hau ki from its original nepali version. hence, this is not my original work. nevertheless, i find the song absolutely beautiful and, therefore, i am translating it to make sense out of my own position in a english-speaking community while feeling the feelings that the song evokes, which i believe, i feel in a deeply nepali way. lots of feelings haha!

smile, oh your smile,
i remember earnestly.
its as if like after the sun sets;
my heart gets dark.
oh your picture,
is all that’s left now.
like waking up from a nightmare,
my heart, it trembles.

i took shade after the rain came down,
even the tiniest of raindrops feel like flood,
will you turn back and look at me?
will you forget me like today forgot yesterday?

my anxious heart,
oh anxious heart,
it searches for you.
when it cannot find you,
it digs deep in my memories.
our eyes,
they play hide-and-seek,
yet they don’t recognize each other,
like the moon doesn’t recognize the sun.

pray tell me, how do you tie a rope
that’s been broken into two?
will we exchange this love,
or will we give this up completely?
if you say you need time,
see, i’ve stopped the clock for you.
will you forget me,
like today forgot yesterday?
i took shade after the rain came down.
will we exchange this love,
or will we give this up completely?
will you ever turn around and look at me?
will you forget me,
like today forgot yesterday?
will you forget me,
like today forgot yesterday?
